Mikoto Nikki

Mikoto Nikki is a psychological thriller game created by Charon, their first game debut. This is a story of two students – Matarou and Mikoto. It begins with Matarou confessing his love to Mikoto, which she accepts. Soon, Matarou comes over to his lover’s home, where he starts to uncover Mikoto’s past. Matarou, a young high school student, confesses his feelings to his crush, Mikoto; she then invites him over for dinner that night. While dinner is being made, Matarou looks around and finds pieces of Mikoto’s diary. As he continues his strange quest, he realizes that Mikoto is not what she appears to be. 

Following what he learned from the diary pieces, Matarou discovers three rotting corpses in Mikoto’s closet, deducing that two of them are her parents while the third is Yukimaru, a boy who dated Mikoto in the past. Mikoto then enters the closet and confesses that she locked her parents in there to “take care” of them. One day during their imprisonment, they called her a demon child, leading to Mikoto refusing to feed them for a week; this ultimately resulted in their deaths via starvation.

Sometime after their deaths, she met Yukimaru, who seemed to give her life new meaning. However, he discovered the bodies (similar to Matarou) and was locked in the closet. Mikoto then asks Matarou if he will run away like Yukimaru did. Towards the end of the game, Matarou discovers three rotting corpses in Mikoto’s closet. From what he had read from the diary entries, he deduced that two of them were Mikoto’s parents and the other was Yukimaru, a boy who started dating Mikoto before Matarou. Mikoto then enters the closet and confesses that she locked her parents in her closet and “took care” of them.

One day, they called her a demon child, and Mikoto refused to feed them for a week. As a result, they starved to death. Sometime after their deaths, she met Yukimaru, who seemed to give her life meaning again. Like Matarou, he eventually discovered the bodies, and she kept him locked in the closet. She then asks Matarou if he’d run away like Yukimaru did. Here, the player is presented with three options, which determine the ending (excluding the one involving the flashlight).
