Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (known as Monster Hunter 3G in Japan) is a hunting action game for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. It is an expanded version of Monster Hunter Tri with new weapons and reintroduces the G Rank. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate’s core gameplay is that the player hunts Monsters for quest. However, to take down stronger monsters, it requires many materials for stronger gear. Each type of weapon plays relatively differently.
This entry combines elements of both Monster Hunter Tri, like the underwater combat, and Monster Hunter Portable 3rd like certain weapon types like the gunlance, bow, hunting horn and dual swords. The game also reintroduces G rank, a level above high rank that features a new set of quests, harder monsters and improved weapons and armor. This is the first time G rank has been present in a Monster Hunter game since Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.
A new feature called Target Camera allows hunters to center the camera on nearby large monsters instead of the direction they are currently facing by pressing the L Button. This feature is optional and can be toggled via the bottom screen. If the L button is pressed twice in succession, the camera shifts behind the hunter as normal. MH4 director Kaname Fujioka has revealed that the Target Camera system was implemented into 3U as an experiment and that a further modified version would be used in Monster Hunter 4.
