PriPara Mezase! Idol Grand Prix No.1! is a Rhythm game developed and published by Takara Tomy for the Nintendo 3DS. It was released exclusively in Japan on October 22, 2015. This game marks the first dedicated PriPara game for the 3DS, building upon the popular arcade series with added features and a story mode. In this game, players step into the world of PriPara (short for Prism Paradise) as aspiring idols aiming to win the Idol ☆ Grand Prix. The gameplay combines rhythm-based performances with fashion customization. Players can design their own “My Chara” avatars, selecting hairstyles, eye colors, and outfits.
The game features over 2,000 collectible “Pritickets” (fashion items), which can be obtained through gameplay or QR code scans. The rhythm segments involve pressing buttons in time with the music, with difficulty increasing as players progress. Performances are enhanced by the “Cyalume Change,” a feature that adds visual flair to the shows. The story mode follows the player’s journey to become the top idol in PriPara. Throughout the game, players interact with characters from the anime series, including Laala, Mirei, Sophy, and others. The narrative is lighthearted, focusing on friendship and the challenges of idol life.
While the game is in Japanese, the storyline is straightforward, and non-Japanese speakers can still enjoy the gameplay. The game features 25 songs available in both Live Mode and Story Mode. Players can perform solo concerts, with each song accompanied by unique choreography and visuals. The rhythm mechanics are accessible, making it suitable for players new to the genre. Customization is a significant aspect of the game. Players can design outfits using the “My☆Cyalume Coordinate” system, combining tops, bottoms, shoes, and accessories. The game includes a “Coord Capsule Machine” (gacha system) for obtaining new fashion items. Additionally, scanning QR codes from magazines or merchandise can unlock exclusive content.
