SPEC – Kan is an Adventure game developed and published by Bandai Namco Games for the Nintendo 3DS. It was released exclusively in Japan on October 03, 2013. SPEC – Kan is a text-adventure game based on the TV drama series with the same name, featuring the same actors from the TV series. Most of the game resembles a typical visual novel, showing static characters in different poses and expressions over the background with on-screen text to indicate dialogues with included voice-acting. Unlike in visual novels, where both background and characters often use anime art, this game uses actual locations and live photos for both locations and characters.
The bottom, touch screen, is used to enter players’ responses during dialogues, check the conversation log, adjust the game settings, save the game, or check the tips and hints section. Set in an alternate version of modern-day Japan, the game follows the SPEC (Special Police Investigation Corps), a secretive law enforcement unit tasked with apprehending individuals who misuse their supernatural abilities, known as “SPECs.” Players assume the roles of protagonists Takeru and Saya, delving into a mystery that bridges the narrative gap between episodes 4 and 5 of the TV series.
