ROM Information

Tales of the World – Reve Unitia is a Tactical RPG game developed and published by Bandai Namco Games for the  Nintendo 3DS. It was released exclusively in Japan on October 23, 2014, and was translated to English by InochiPM. This is a spin-off of the Tales series featuring various characters from the Tales games. It seems to be largely based on the Tales of the World: Tactics Union mobile game. The game takes place in a dream world known as Revalia, fuelled by the dreams of its inhabitants. The Rufres tribe maintains balance in the world by fighting the Vuul, manifestations of darkness that dwell in the hearts of Revalia’s inhabitants.

Normally, people known as Dreamcatchers fight against these Vuul, but they have somehow mysteriously disappeared. Desperate, the Rufres decide to summon people known as awakened dreamers from what is known as the Awakened World to fight the Vuul. As a result, characters from various Tales games in the series appear without any knowledge of their own worlds to fight the Vuul. The game’s story is split in to the perspectives of a member of the Rufres tribe, Terun, and a Dreamcatcher, Nahato.

The game plays in the same vein as most tactical role-playing games, such as Final Fantasy Tactics, where the player moves a party of characters across a grid to fight an opposing party. The game is controlled entirely through touch screen input. Prior to starting a battle, characters are customized with different equipment and skills, the latter of which consume “mystic point” when used in battle, but replenish over time. As battles progress, different characters develop “favorability ratings” for other characters, which can either lead to status bonuses, characters attacking together when near one another, or revealing special conversations.
