Tantei Jinguuji Saburou – Fukushuu no Rondo also known as Detective Saburo Jinguji: The Rondo of Revenge, is an Adventure game developed by WorkJam for the Nintendo 3DS. It was released exclusively in Japan on June 28, 2012. It commemorates the 25th anniversary of the long-standing Tantei Jinguuji Saburou series, internationally recognized as Jake Hunter. Set in the gritty underbelly of Shinjuku, Tokyo, the game follows private detective Saburō Jingūji as he navigates a complex web of crime and personal vendettas.
The narrative begins with Jingūji regaining consciousness, only to find himself restrained and assaulted by unknown assailants. This harrowing introduction sets the tone for a tale steeped in noir elements, where the line between justice and revenge blurs. The series is renowned for its hardboiled storytelling, drawing inspiration from classic detective fiction. Jingūji’s character embodies the archetypal private eye—stoic, chain-smoking, and deeply entrenched in the moral ambiguities of his cases.
The game’s atmosphere is further enriched by its jazz-infused soundtrack, a signature of the series that complements its moody aesthetic. As an adventure game, Fukushuu no Rondo emphasizes narrative progression through exploration, dialogue, and decision-making. Players interact with various characters, gather clues, and make choices that influence the story’s outcome. The game’s interface and mechanics are designed to immerse players in its detective narrative, offering a blend of investigation and storytelling.
