Undertale

Welcome to Undertale-3DS, a fan-made project aiming to bring the beloved game Undertale to the Nintendo 3DS platform. Please note that this project is 100% unofficial, currently in very early development, serving as a proof of concept at the moment. As of now, not much has been added to the project, and it is not suitable for regular gameplay (hopefully soon!).

Undertale is a role-playing video game that uses a top-down perspective. In the game, the player controls a child and completes objectives in order to progress through the story. Players explore an underground world filled with towns and caves, and are required to solve numerous puzzles on their journey. The underground world is the home of monsters, many of whom challenge the player in combat; players decide whether to kill, flee from, or befriend them. Choices made by the player radically affect the plot and general progression of the game, with the player’s morality acting as the cornerstone for the game’s development.

Undertale is set in the Underground, a realm where monsters were banished after war broke out with humans. The Underground is sealed from the surface by a magic barrier with a singular gap at Mount Ebott. A human child falls into the Underground from Mount Ebott and encounters Flowey, a sentient flower who teaches the player the game’s mechanics and lies about “LV”, or “LOVE”, in an attempt to kill them. The human is rescued by Toriel, a motherly goat-like monster, who teaches them how to survive conflict in the Underground without killing. She intends to adopt the human, wanting to protect them from Asgore, the king of the Underground.

What’s been added

• Intro Cutscene (100% Done)
• Name Select (No transition from name select to main game yet)
• All the original name responses from the Name Select (Plus a few extras I added)
• 8 directional movement for player and SOUL
• Slow down SOUL when pressing B
• Overhaul of dialogue system
• Easy-to-modify dialogue system and npcs
• An awesome Pixel Perfect Camera to fit the 3ds resolution and stay faithful to the original game
• Flowey Encounter fully complete, only need to merge all the events together
• FUnctional and interactable NPCs
• New Tilemap system to create and render tilemaps for rooms
• The first six rooms of the game + a custom big room
• Proper Music playback as present in the original game

Current Priorities

• Optimize Text (It runs really well on n3ds, lags a tiny bit on old models)
• Merge all parts of the Flowey encounter to have the first part of the game done
• Add Toriel interactions
• SAVING SYSTEM (VERY IMPORTANT)

Known issues

• Player and SOUL movement is slower on New systems if they have Overclock turned on. (To fix simply turn off overclock and l2 cache)
• Moving with circlepad doesn’t update the current direction the player is facing, leading to not being able to properly interact with NPCs. Use the dpad instead (for now)
